This report is based on the translation practice of the first and third chapters of Dying to Be Thin. The source text mainly introduces the harm of eating disorders and the treatment methods. It also cites the rehabilitation cases of relevant patients to appeal to patients with such diseases and their families to find the correct help-seeking ways to help them get out of the trouble. The source text is popular science text, which is the combination of informative text and vocative text.During translation, the translator should not only pay attention to the transmission of information, but also to the reader's response. Therefore, communicative translation is adopted to make target readers obtain the same reading experience as the original readers. This report is divided into five parts.Firstly, the translator introduces the background and significance of this translation practice. Then, the basic information of the author and the general content of the source text is introduced.Secondly, the translator describes the work done in the preparation process, which includes the preparation of theory and the analysis and source text. The translation process and post-translation matters are also included in this part. After that, under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the translator analyzes the translation cases from two aspects of vocabulary and sentence. Finally, the translator summarizes the experience and shortcomings in this translation practice,so as to promote the research of popular science text translation and contribute to improve the translation quality of popular science texts.
