Handscroll of historical landscape, inscriptionless,Qing Dynasty, which is a longform documentary ode to holy paintings drawn by folk painters, the painter was obviously subject to the influence of objective facts and subjective emotion when expressing the main idea of the picture. This paper takes the painting as the main research object. It combs the context of the scroll in detail by analyzing the historical reasons of Qianlong's southern tour, and the economic and human conditions in Suzhou. On this basis, the main content of the picture is expounded with the help of the research methods of image science. On the one hand, the painters depicted the prosperous scene of Suzhou City with elaborate layout, vividly presenting the theme of "Wanhu Chaotian".On the other hand, the painters used the yellow canopy to replace the absent image of the emperor in the scroll, which was actually a subjective enhancement of the meaning of "Wanhu Chaotian".Through the research,it can be seen that the social background, political constraints, and patron(audience)aesthetics stipulate the objective elements that the painter can choose from. And the subjective creation of the painter has personally imprinted the stereotyped works of eulogy, realizing the image of emperor to shape from objective interpretation to subjective reinforcement. From the perspective of "history with pictures",Handscroll of historical landscape,as an outstanding historical custom picture,is a multi-prism that interprets and perspectives the historical practice, artistic aesthetics, social life, and craftsmanship of the Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. The picture shows the original modality which is hard to describe but vividly.In-depth research on the scroll will undoubtedly help to fill some gaps in the study of the history of the Qing Dynasty and the history of painting.
