This translation project is based on Lucy Fitch Perkins’ novel The Belgian Twins. This novel portrays a series of adventures of twins on the way to find their mother, whose family in Belgium was once happy but was forced to break up because of the war.A large number of interjections and onomatopoeic words are used in this novel, showing vivid characters and life atmosphere.Readers can follow the clues of the story through the author’s words and sentences.Based on the theory of reception aesthetics, this paper analyzes the translation from two aspects: children’s interest, readability and literariness. The theory emphasizes that the readers should not be neglected and the translators should consider the readers’ horizon of expectation and make the translation more acceptable to the children. In order to better convey the story, domestication translation strategy is employed in dealing with some foreign words in the original text so as to make the translation more acceptable to the children, while the translation strategy of foreignization is employed to preserve the features of the source text. The translation practice report consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction of the translation task, which involves the features of this novel and the practical significance of the translation project. The second part is the description of the translation process, including translation preparation, translation process andpost-translation proofreading. The third part expounds the theory of reception aesthetics. The fourth part is case analysis, which analyzes the guiding role of the theory. The last part is a summary of the translation practice, which examines the shortcomings and achievements of this translation practice.
