A Study Of The Funeral Words In Stone Carvings Of Song,Yuan,and Ming Dynasties Unearthed In Sichuan Province

As one of the major provinces of unearthed stone carvings,Sichuan Province is home to a large number of stone carvings.Among them,with unique contents and quantities,the epitaphs and land purchase certificates in Song,Yuan,and Ming Dynasties are typical.They have research significance in philology,lexicology,lexicography,folklore,religious studies,and Fengshui,etc.Therefore,with the target of these epitaphs and land purchase certificates,a monographic research is carried out on the funeral words based on a comprehensive and scientific sorting.First of all,an all-round description and detailed analysis are made in the funeral words in stone carvings of Song,Yuan,and Ming Dynasties unearthed in Sichuan Province(hereinafter referred to as “the funeral words”).In this connection,the development rules of the funeral words are summarized as an attempt to further explore the funeral culture in Bashu region.This research is expected to provide literature and data for investigation of stone carvings words,funeral culture,and the compilation and revision of lexicon entries.The thesis is divided into six parts:Introduction: At first,this part combs the research history and current situation of the funeral words,and then discusses its academic significance and research value.At the same time,it also necessarily elucidates the innovative point,research thinking,research methods,and material sources.Chapter one: A monographic study of the funeral words is conducted to analyze the motivation of word-making.This part is divided into four sections according to the process from death to burial,namely,death,funeral custom,appellation for burying place,and burial.Chapter two: This part mainly discusses the inheritance and development of the funeral words.By searching the ancient and inscription literature from the previous and following times,this thesis makes the sources of the funeral words clear.It includes two sections.The first section is the general situation of the funeral words inherited from pre-Qin,Han Wei Southern and Northern,and Sui and Tang Dynasties.The second one preliminarily analyzes the new words and meanings from the funeral words and the motivation of word-making,illustrating with examples.Chapter three: On the basis of the above comprehensive analysis and description,this part concludes the main characteristics of the funeral words from lexical and semantic aspects.Chapter four: Based on the above descriptive studies,the thesis further analyzes the funeral culture of Bashu region reflected by the funeral words.Conclusion: This part sums up the whole situation and regularity of the funeral words.
