English for science and technology(EST)combines expertise as well as English together to help different countries communicate with each other in science and technology area.Being different from other literary forms,the EST not only requires translators to integrate scientific knowledge with English,but also expresses in a concise and accurate language.Thus,translating the EST has a higher requirement for translators.At present,the EST translation remains at the beginning.There are only a few translation methods for guiding the EST translation,and the scientific knowledge related to the translation project is not enough.Besides,there are a little translation guidance on it,all of which make the quality of the translation varies.As one of the fast-developing industries,Inertial Navigation System(INS)plays a significant role in enhancing the international status and strengthening national defense.With a swift development on science and technology in China,navigation industry begins to have more and more communications with other countries.With more frequency in communications,language barriers occur very often,which result in many difficulties and waste a lot human resource.Hereon,in order to ensure the communication with foreign countries and improve the quality of the translation,more translation requirements in navigation area occur.A Design Report on a Calibration Assembly for Inertial Navigation System is the design report for inertial navigation system,and this calibration assembly is the most advanced home-made device in China by now,so breakthroughs in technical innovation and practicability have been made in this assembly.Because it was released in these two years,this report cannot be found on Internet,and there is no any English information about it.Therefore,it is worthy of translating this report.In addition,term translations in this project will also provide some help in improving the translation standard of the navigation industry.In this report,the author extends a brief introduction about the translation project in the first chapter.In chapter two,the whole translation process is introduced.Besides,language features of the project and translation difficulties are presented.The theoretical foundation as well as the possibility and necessity of functional equivalence theory in project translation are explained in chapter three.In chapter four,the author states the equivalence in lexical level,syntactical level as well as paragraphs with examples.At last,conclusions are drawn to summarize the practical experience and limitations of this translation project.
