Translation Practice Report On ?KODA AUTO’s Sustainability Report(2017-2018)

This report is based on the project between the author of this report and ?KODA China,the brand of Volkswagen in Beijing.The original text Sustainability＿2017-2018(in English),which issued in July 2019,aims at recording and showing the company’s implementation of the strategy in economic,environmental and social activities from 2017 to 2018.The translated version of the text has been adopted by the company in February,2020.This report,with the help of the text analysis theory put forward by Peter Newmark(2001),analyzes how the translator actively and purposefully chooses appropriate strategies on the basis of the writing features of enterprise report.Moreover,since the original text was not completed by a native English writer,there are many non-English expressions(Czech phrases)and grammar mistakes.Given that,great efforts have been made to explore how to give full play to the translator’s subjectivity while respecting the basic meaning of the source language,and to discusses how to correctly translate the words or phrases with no fixed translation,sentences with ambiguous meanings,or texts with poor cohesion,thus enabling target language readers to understand the material as source language readers do when reading the material.Based on the text analysis theory and the theory of translator subjectivity,the report is expected to summarize the strategies in translating texts which was written by non-English-speaking writer,thus providing certain references for the future translation and study.
