A Report On C-E Translation Of Communication Technical Instructions Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Text Analysis Theory

The fast development of science and technology and the internationalization in China have prompted more technology enterprises to seek international market.In this process,technical translation serves as a bridge between Chinese enterprises and the international market.High-quality English technical document help to promote domestic products better and faster,shaping good corporate images.This report is based on the C-E translation projects in which the translator was involved in Huawei Translation Services Center.It takes RF Network Planning and Optimization Service UMTS Traffic Forecast Technical Guide as the object and summarizes difficulties encountered in the translation process from technical and linguistic aspects.Under Newmark’s text analysis theory,it analyzes the types and functions of technical texts and finds semantic and communicative translation is highly instructive to technical texts and further proposes specific translation strategies.To solve technical difficulties,translators should enrich the background knowledge and verify the terminology through multiple means,such as referring to parallel text and corpus and give full play to their subjectivity through critical thinking and communication with the source text author.While for linguistic difficulties,translators should respect the source test author’s meaning and readers’ perception.To this end,it adopts such skills as addition,omission,explicitation,and restructuring to achieve the best integration between the source text author and the target text readers,under the guidance of semantic translation emphasizing the author and language structure and communicative translation focusing on readers and effect.This report takes translator’s subjectivityand best integration of source text author’s information and reader’s acceptation into consideration,providing a new angle for technical translation study.
