| The theme of the 2019 UN World Water Development Report is: leaving no one behind.It examines the current situation of the world's water resources and access to water services,and increases the exchanges and cooperation between countries around the world.Therefore,every country can better set out from its own national conditions to solve the problems of water resources.In this translation practice report,the first two chapters of the 2019 United Nations World Water Development Report are selected as translation practice materials,which belongs to scientific and technological texts.This report consists of five parts: the introduction of the project;the description of the translation process;the description of the functional equivalence theory and its guiding significance;the case study and the summary of the translation project.Guided by Nida's theory of functional equivalence,the author discusses the difficulties encountered in the process of translation at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels,and cites sufficient examples to discuss the corresponding translation strategies and techniques.In terms of vocabulary,literal translation,free translation,addition and conversion are used to handle the difficulties in translating the terminology and abbreviations.In terms of syntax,use splitting and conversion to deal with the difficulties of the passive voice and long sentences.In terms of text,the cohesive devices of reference,substitution and con-junction will be applied to achieve the cohesion and coherence of the discourse.When solving these problems and difficulties,this translation report gives full consideration to the differences between English and Chinese,and maintains the objectivity,accuracy and preciseness of the scientific and technological text during the translation,so as to achieve the functional and semantic equivalence between the ST and TT at lexical,syntactical and textual level. |
