This translation report is based on the translation of the first chapter of Wild Ride: Inside Uber's Quest for World Domination. The protagonist of the book is Uber's CEO Travis Kalanick. The original author of the book is Adam Rasinski, who is a reporter of the American financial magazine Fortune,Rasinski's work Inside Apple: How America's Most Admired-and-Secretive-Company Really Works has entered the New York Times' s bestseller list. This translation report consists of five parts. In the first part, the author introduced the background, significance of the translation project and characteristics of the source text;in the second part, the author introduced the functional equivalence theory that guided the translation project and its presenter Eugene Nida;in the third part, the author introduced us the translation process to us: the preparation before translation, difficulties in translation and post-translation proofreading;the fourth part is case analysis, which is the focus of the translation report. To explain the translation method of biographical text, the author analyzed the translation of some vocabularies and sentences in the translation project with the guidance of functional equivalence theory;in the fifth part, the author made a conclusion the entire translation project and summed up three principles of translation.Character biographies are a kind of documentary genre, which are not only documentary but also literary. Therefore,in order to avoid deviations in translation styles, the translator chose functional equivalence theory to guide translation.
