On March 10,1904,Shanghai Cosmopolitan Red Cross,which found in the Russo-Japanese War,composed the prologue of the cause of the Chinese Red Cross,and thus the Chinese Red Cross entered the stage of the history of the Red Cross Movement.Jiang Menglin studied abroad in the US in early years,he made great contributions to China’s education after graduation and became a famous educationist in China’s modern times.Besides,he was also very sympathetic to the Red Cross cause.In the early 20th century,he volunteered to participate in various activities of the Red Cross,holding profound feelings with the Red Cross.In 1943,when the nation was on the verge of being occupied by the enemy,Jiang Menglin was appointed President of the Red Cross of China.He reinforced the organization construction in wartime,instructed the ambulance corps to cooperate with the army headquarters to complete the task of rescue in war,and also made efforts in rear humanitarian assistance such as medical services.In 1946,the Chinese Red Cross entered into the "period of returning",in which Jiang Menglin was reelected as president.He formulated the objective of"laying the foundation for the Society,promoting social security",actively promoted the founding of the constitution of the Red Cross,and drew up eight "serving principles".On the basis of the traditional service work,he instructed the Red Cross personnel to carry out more comprehensive social service projects The concept and actual practice of Red Cross services advocated by Jiang Menglin during his term of office played an important role in promoting the development of the Chinese Red Cross Society in modern times.And it also had a profound use for reference for the further work of the Chinese Red Cross today.
