Mao Yan in contemporary portrait painting artists style is obviously different,the work conveys a very strong personal face.Mao Yan studied painting since childhood and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the 1990s,and then taught at Nanjing Academy of Art.Influenced by the rigorous training of painting techniques and the reverence of classical masters for painting,Mao Yan resolutely adheres to the creation in the field of traditional portrait painting in the environment of new technology,new media and other creation methods and various art forms.Mao Yan’s persistence has touched me.In today’s diversified development of art forms,Mao Yan is exploring in the field of realism painting,and the characteristics of emptiness,quietness and concentration that has always been maintained have been developed and inherited by scholars and scholars of various dynasties,and gradually become an important mood of art creation that the creators of traditional Chinese culture value and pursue,which is considered to be one of the necessary conditions for art creation.This paper holds that the creative characteristics of emptiness,quietness and concentration make Mao Yan find their own accord with the present era in the field of traditional realistic painting that he loves,form a unique portrait painting language,and create many portraits works with contemporary feeling,which are favored by many painters.In the environment of traditional painting being constantly questioned,Mao Yan’s persistence is undoubtedly a confirmation of his innate belief in painting,but also proves with practice that traditional portrait painting on frame has new vitality and new possibility in the new period.Mao Yan undoubtedly represents the new height of realistic portrait painting,which is unique and unique among Chinese young artists.This paper discusses and analyze the different artistic concepts and works of the artist Mao Yan in different periods,along with the artistic characteristics of emptiness,quietness and concentration,so as to interpret the challenges of Mao Yan in the face of the artistic environment and the changes of his own thoughts in different periods,as well as its progress and success in creation.Through the case study of Mao Yan’s portrait painting,this paper analyzes the characteristics of emptiness,quietness and concentration in his portrait painting creation,different kinds of painting works and the response state in different periods,so as to provide a new thinking angle and reference for the scholars or young artists who are pursuing the artistic ideal,especially the portrait painting direction.From the chapter of the thesis,this paper is divided into five parts:The first part is to sort out the relevant background of Mao Yan’s time,and analyze the evolution of Mao Yan’s art process and artistic concept.The second part is to analyze the creative characteristics of Mao Yan’s emptiness,quietness and concentration.First of all,the development of the concept of emptiness,quietness and the introduction of it in art creation are discussed.The latter section is to discuss and analyze the characteristics and artistic concepts of emptiness,quietness and concentration in Mao Yan’s portrait painting creation by combining the interview and relevant comments on Mao Yan.The third part is a specific analysis of the classification of Mao Yan portrait paintings according to different concept characteristics.The fourth part discusses the inspiration of Mao Yan’s portrait painting,that is,the connection and significance with contemporary art creation.The fifth part is the conclusion which summarizes the characteristics of Mao Yan’s portrait painting and the value and significance of its painting creation in the contemporary portrait painting.
