Research On Essays Of Reading Du Fu's Poetry By Chen Xu

Chen Xu,who lives in the early Qing Dynasty,has two works about Du Fu's poetry called Criticism on the Detailed Annotation of Du Fus Poems and Essays of Reading Du Fu's Poetry,Compared with the former,the latter is finished later,and has more mature comments.However,researchers pay more attention to Criticism on the Detailed Annotation of Du Fu's Poems,and the research on Essays of Reading Du Fu's Poetry is not sufficient at all.Chen Xu believes that a poem written by Du Fu can be seen as a logical and integrated unit.Based on this opinion,Chen Xu explains the art of composition and the meaning of Du Fu's poetry in the Essays of Reading Du Fu's Poetry,learning from annotations of Qian Qianyi,Zhu Heling,Qiu Zhaoao,Pu Qilong and so on at the same time.Chen Xu analyses the art of composition of Du Fu's poetry by observing the coherence and change of the meaning of poems.He finds the use of methods called the correlation and the clue,as well as summary and transition,combination of different narrative orders,drop,drop by negative expressions and inversion.He also focuses on the assignments of contents of Du Fu's poetry,finding that Du Fu tends to make the objects of description obvious by pointing them directly,using foil or controlling length.As for explaining the meaning of Du Fu's poetry,Chen Xu can correct others' opinions and present his own views.He can explain the meaning of literary allusions by Du Fu's poetry flexibly and appropriately as well.As a poet,Chen Xu also can explore the meaning of poems deeply and specifically.In the process of explaining,Chen Xu concentrates on one poem at a time mostly,and he also makes comparisons between different poems.There are some shortcomings in Chen Xu's explanations,like incorrect explanations of the meaning of poems and overuse of the art of composition in explanations of the meaning of poems.But on the whole,Chen Xu explains the art of composition and the meaning of Du Fu's poetry according to the text,and he can correct others' explanations and put up new opinions at the same time.Therefore,Essays of Reading Du Fu's Poetry can be seen as a work which has its features and values in the field of study of Du Fu's poetry in the early Qing Dynasty.
