Pu Feng is the creator and researcher of Chinese modern popular poetry.He devoted himself to the creation of new poetry,also actively explored the theory of new poetry.He has formed his own poetics theory system in the theory of poetry creation,poetry criticism and poetry history.The argument of literature popularization had already begun when Pu Feng studied the theory of popular new poetry.From the current data,he didn't directly participate in the argument of popularity,but the theoretical construction of his poetry still in the influence of the argument of literature popularization.In 1934,Pu Feng studied in Japan.While studying in Japan,he took an active part in the activities which organized by the left-wing writers' Union with the influence of Lu Xun and Guo Moruo.He also contacted a large number of Japanese translated works of Marxist thought.In his "New and Old Poems",Pu Feng cited "The Twelve Lectures on Social Sciences" which written by the Japanese scholar Sugi Shirong.He also cited the preface to the critique of the political economy to explain the influence of economic foundation with the change of poetic style.Pu Feng's poetry theory was influenced by Pushkin.In his articles,such as "Pushkin in China" and "Pushkin in Singing",he praised Pushkin's practice of encouraging poets to write popular language for many times,and applied the concepts of "freedom","heat and power" conveyed in Pushkin's works to poetry criticism.As the initiator of the Chinese Poetry Association,Pu Feng insisted on using the theory of new poetry to guide the creation of new poetry.Combining with the articles included in the speech of Anti Japanese war poetry,his theory of poetry creation could be divided into the following three aspects:(1)The theory of new poetry form,Pu Feng mainly studied from three aspects--the harmony of content and form,the usage of new and old forms,and the usage of popular language;(2)Pu Feng analyzed the uniqueness of poetry from two aspects.On the one hand,he believed that narration and lyricism were not opposites.Although they had different emphases,they were integrated with each other.On the other hand,with the influence of People's Republic of China's funding and the resistance against Japan,Pu Feng advocated the usage of "natural" skills to harmonize the tone in writing.It can enhance the expression of the common emotions of the nation during the war.(3)To avoid the problems of formalization andsymbolization in new poetry,the poet should not only create typical characters,but also write personalized typical characters.In addition to the study of poetry creation,Pu Feng also explored the theory of poetry criticism and applied it to the practice.Pu Feng put forward that criticism was a kind of atmosphere that could promote the "democratic spirit" and guide the reality.Such as On literary criticism and Rambling on poetic criticism.He also believed that "criticism can guide literary creation,and the era of prosperous criticism will be the era of prosperous creativity".In the principle of poetry criticism,Pu Feng said: "great critics' opinions should be built on the principles of historicism and dialectics to estimate literary phenomena." It also applied the principles of historicism and dialectics to poetry criticism.At the same time,he also advocated using the principle of integrity in poetry criticism,that is to say,comment on the whole writing process and experience of the writer.It could be seen from Pu Feng's works theory and writer theory that there were mainly comparative criticism and sociological criticism in poetry criticism.Pu Feng's theory of poetry history is mainly included in the modern Chinese poetry circle.From the perspective of history,he discussed the origin of Chinese poetry,the development of poetry style,and the influence of the "Poetry Revolution" on new poetry.He summarized the development of the Chinese poetry circle from May 4th Movement to 1937 in stages.Pu Feng thought that poetry originated from labor.By the time of the Tang Dynasty,"all Chinese poetry genres had been completed",CI and Qu were the derivations of poetry.In the modern era,the new poems sprout.With the change of social and economic structure and the introduction of Western learning,the old poems no longer adapted to the development.Combined with the time when the "revolution in the field of poetry" took place and the trend of the development of the field of poetry,Pu Feng called it the vanguard of the new poetry movement instead of “poetry revolution”.In the general survey of a subject of Chinese poetry from May 4th movement to the present,Pu Feng not only combed the development of Chinese poetry popularization but also carried out specific research on different poetry schools and poets.His combing and Research on Chinese modern poetry has important historical and theoretical value.
