A Research Upon The Literary Criticism Of Feng Jiannan

Mr. Feng Jiannian, the famous literary critic in China, always puts forward his frank andsharp evaluations and opinions to the target of criticism from the social perspective. Hiscritical style is of "two points"that he usually proceeds both from the social contexts and theaesthetics values embodied in the content when assessing a pieces of literary work.The paper attempts to study and discuss Mr. Feng's style of criticism from three aspects:his consistent persistence of the Marxist thoughts of art and literature; his unceasingexploration of rules for the literature creation; and his fruitful practice on the literary review.His theories for the literary criticism are founded on the basis of Marxist thoughts of art andliterature. And he has made great contributions on discussing the regularities of "localizing"of Marxist thoughts of art and literature, on probing thoroughly into the characteristics of theMarxist literary criticism and on understanding correctly and upholding the Marxist theory of"alienation". On terms of guiding the literature creation, he proposed that the creating aliterary work should not separate from the careful observation of the social life, and must startfrom the portraying of the characters and emphasize writing skills. He represents the domesticmainstream of evaluating Sun Li, a famous Chinese writer, and "the lotus lake school"and hehas exerted profound influences in the literary commiunity on the evaluation of a series worksentitled Hongqipu (The red flag genealogy). And also his debate with Mr. Yan Jiayan on thetypical portrayal of Liang Shengbao, the protagonist of Chuangyeshi (the history of startingan enterprising work), deeply impressed the literary critical field. The achivements Mr.fenghas made on literary criticism has established his important place in the contemporary literarycritical field in China as well as his second to none position in the literary criticism areas inHebei province.
