Reading and writing are complementary and intertwined,and teachers should not separate them when teaching.So,in a reading class,the teacher should also pay attention to the cultivation of students' writing ability.In order to do so,both vocabulary,grammar and text as a whole should be emphasized in reading.Teachers should analyze the content and the structure based on the overall meaning of the text.Based on this,the study is to explore how to promote students' writing skills through text-based reading teaching.This study emphasizes the combination of reading and writing,and it is mainly guided by Text Analysis Theory,Input Hypothesis,Output Hypothesis,focusing on the following three research questions:(1)How does text-based reading teaching affect students' English writing strategies in senior high schools?(2)How does text-based reading teaching affect the contents of English compositions of senior high school students?(3)How does text-based reading teaching affect the structures of English compositions of senior high school students?In order to answer the three questions,this study takes two classes in Grade Two of a senior high school in Yueyang as research subjects,and uses research tools such as writing tests,writing exercises,and questionnaires to conduct a sixteen-week teaching experiment.In the course of the experiment,the teacher teaches reading in the conventional way in the control class,and the teacher strengthens the content and structure of texts based on conventional reading teaching in the experimental class.Through analysis of the collected data,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Text-based reading teaching has a positive impact on students' strategies in writing,helping them apply textual knowledge to writing;(2)Text-based reading teaching has a positive impact on the contents of English compositions of senior high school students,and it helps students pay attention to the logic and coherence of the ideas expressed;(3)And text-based reading teaching has a positive impact on the structures of English compositions of senior high school students.The study finds that allowing students to pay attention to the structure of the text can help students plan the layout while writing.In addition,teaching grammatical cohesive devices in reading class systematically can enable students to use more of them and make their English compositions cohesive.This study verifies that text-based reading teaching has a positive effect on English writing of senior high school students.
