English reading and writing are very important in high school English teaching which are also highly related to students’ language ability.However,it is also a difficult part for teachers.In Gaokao,reading and writing account for 80 points and 40 points respectively.Reading is an input activity,providing foundation for writing which is an output activity.Many researches show that reading for writing can effectively facilitate the improvement of students’ writing ability,but most researches concentrate on college students.Few of them were about high school students,not to mention using the new textbook based on the new English Curriculum Standard.The New Curriculum Standard of High School English(2017)points out developing students’ core competence,including language ability,cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability.Language ability consisting of listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing is of vital significance.Reading for writing teaching mode combines reading with writing in a class,using writing as an evaluation method testing the class effectiveness.The students make sense of the content,language features and structure of reading,then make use of the structure in writing and combine their own thoughts in it.This research focus on “Reading for Writing” approach for high school English teaching using the new textbook based on the New English Curriculum Standard,implementing “context,understanding,expressing,and outputting” teaching mode.The research figures out the effectiveness of the teaching mode and its influence on students’ learning attitude and habits.The study subjects were senior two students from two parallel classes in a high school in Kunming,Yunnan Province.The control class students received traditional teaching mode which focused more on the language form,and the experimental class received the new teaching mode.The research combined qualitative and quantitative research,studying three questions using questionnaires,tests and interviews.1.How to apply the “context,understanding,expressing,and outputting” teaching mode to teaching?2.How does the teaching mode facilitate students writing ability?3.How does the students think of the teaching mode?By comparing the test results and questionnaires of the two classes,the research shows that “context,understanding,expressing,and outputting” teaching mode can effectively improve students’ writing ability,foster students’ good writing habits and standardize their writing.Also this mode helps the teachers teach creatively and effectively,also reduces the teachers’ stress using the new textbook.It is hoped that the research can provide reference for high school English reading for writing teaching mode.
