MTPE-Based English-Chinese Translation Report Of Hotel Rating Texts

With increasing exchanges in economy and trade among countries,the demand for cross-language information exchange and translation is also growing.Despite high quality,human translation is less efficient;while Machine Translation(MT)can do the opposite.Thus,they are complementary to each other.With the rise of Neural Machine Translation(NMT),the latest technology based on deep learning or Artificial Neural Network,the quality of machine translation has greatly improved,bringing about popularity of a new working method for human translators:Post Editing(PE)the machine translation results to get good quality translation.This report describes in detail the application of MTPE(Machine Translation and Post Editing)working method in translating TripAdvisor's English hotel rating text into Chinese.The goal of this report is to explore the pros and cons of this working method(MTPE)so that it can provide help and reference for people who will study and work on translation.This report is about a translation practice.The author's task is to translate 11,590 hotel rating texts(total 130,455 words)written in English into Chinese from the TripAdvisor web pages.Building a corpus manually aims to provide a part of data needed for training MT Model of NiuTrans in the field of hotel rating on tourism website.This report consists of six chapters.Chapter One is a brief introduction of the translation task,including the source,requirements and purpose of the task.In Chapter Two,the author gives an account of machine translation history,which can be described as a three-stage development,and some scenarios of MT application.Besides,it also discusses the rise of MTPE working method.In Chapter Three,the author quantitively analyzes the online hotel rating texts from the aspects of lexical and syntax level.Apart from that,the applicability of MTPE working method in this task has been discussed as well.In Chapter Four,the author displays the translation process,introducing the tools used in this process,and shows five translation steps through the combination of graphics and texts.In Chapter Five,the author makes a case study of MTPE,where the MT errors are approached from lexical level and syntactic level.Chapter Six is the last chapter of this report.In this part,the author draws a conclusion of this translation practice through introducing the re-recognition of the MTPE working method which includes the current issues of MTPE and room for improvements as well as future development of MTPE;meanwhile,the author has a deeper understanding of the PACTE translation ability model that comprehensively describes the translator's ability needed in the information age.Through this translation practice,the author deeply realizes that the MTPE working method has greatly improved the efficiency and quality of translation.Considering current developments of MTPE,the author believes that such working method will play an increasingly important role in translation field.In order to take advantage of the "man-machine combination",besides depending on advanced technology,translators need to enhance their own skills and competence in translation.
