Interpreter's Subjectivity From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

This report is based on the interpreting for the 14th China(Shandong)International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition(briefed as:Shandong Agricultural Machinery Exhibition)from Feb.21st to 28th,which was jointly sponsored by People's Government of Shandong Province and China Machinery Industry Federation.The author provided interpretation service for both domestic enterprises and foreign delegations.Domestic guests include leaders from their local governments and representatives from local enterprises while foreign guests with the total number of 104 come from 14 different countries,including India,Iran,Nepal,Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan etc.Intercultural communicative awareness and competence play an essential role in foreign affairs.The interpreter's intercultural communicative awareness and ability were given full demonstration in the exhibition to avoid culture shock owing to differences in religions,lifestyles,expressions and so on to facilitate their communications.The interpreter shall not only perform as a basic communication promoter,but a coordinator,a co-constructor and a dialogue rotator in response to cultural diffrences The interpreter is the proactive participant,playing a positive role in verbal exchanges In the main part of this report,the author analyzes the interpreter's ubjectivity within three aspects from the perspective of intercultural communication,including visibility consciousness,empowerment consciousness and unconventional concepts on neutrality and their guidance on interpreting strategies.Eventually,the author presents the feedback and reflections and mentions individual considerations.The author hopes that this report can be a valuable reference in the future.
