Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012,and then scholars both at home and abroad are increasingly studying his works. However, much of scholars are based on the studies of “Magical Realism” and vernacular features. The Commander's Wife is one of Mo Yan's short novels in his early days. This thesis chooses The Commander's Wife for English translation, aiming to improve the accuracy of the translation through the guidance of Feminist Translation Theory and provide further reference for similar translated works.Feminist Translation Theory emerged in the 1980 s with the second wave of woman's movement in the West.Feminist Translation Theory holds that the discrimination against women in translation theory and practice needs to be eliminated, original text and translated text should be placed in same position and the relationship between them needs to be redefined, and translation should not only focus on the language itself, but also on ideology, social culture and customs. This thesis takes two translation versions of The Commander's Wife as the object of study.Starting from Feminist Translation Theory, these two different translations are compared and analyzed to explore more appropriate and applicable translation strategies. One of the two translations is a free version by the author of the thesis with no theoretical guidance and the other is a translation version guided by Feminist Translation Theory.Through the comparative analysis of two different translations, this thesis explores some translation strategies, namely, footnoting, supplementing and hijacking, with the purpose to provide some enlightenment for the translation of Mo Yan's works under the guidance of Feminist Translation Theory.Chapter One explains the research background, significance and the structure of the thesis.Chapter Two summarizes studies of Feminist Translation Theory,Mo Yan's works and the translation of Mo Yan's works.Chapter Three introduces Feminist Translation Strategies, the relationship between feminism and translation and the main viewpoints of Feminist Translation Theory.Chapter Four analyzes the textual features of Mo Yan's works.Chapter Five, original translation version and revised version are compared under the guidance of Feminist Translation Theory, discussing the translation strategies for Mo Yan's works with the feminist perspective.Chapter Six summarizes the whole thesis, pointing out the innovation and deficiency of this thesis and providing a multi-angle perspective for Feminist Translation Theory to guide the translation of Mo Yan's literary works. It is hoped that this study can broaden the scope of Chinese literary translation research and shed some light on Chinese literary translation going global more agreeably.
