A Study On The Image Of Xu Xian In Domestic Film And Television Works

The Legend of the White Snake is one of the four major legends in China.Since the Legend of the White Snake was recorded in the Legend of Li Huang in the Tang Dynasty for more than a thousand years,the enthusiasm of later generations for the adaptation of the Legend of the White Snake has almost never abated.No matter the novel,opera,film and television and other carriers have made a large number of adaptations of the Legend of the White Snake,which is not only rich in form,but also colorful in content,making the image of the main characters deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.The influence of the Legend of the White Snake has even transcended national boundaries.Japan,Singapore and other countries have also used the Legend of the White Snake as the material to create.The main research object of this thesis is the image of Xu Xian in domestic film and television works.Through the study of the development and changes of the early White Snake novels and operas,this paper has an insight into the evolution of Xu Xian’s image,combined with a variety of research methods,such as text research,literature research,historical research,case study and so on.this paper summarizes the image characteristics of Xu Xian in novels and operas,and briefly expounds the reasons for the evolution of Xu Xian’s image.From the birth of the early film andtelevision works related to the Legend of the White Snake,the shaping of the screen image of Xu Xian is not immutable,but keeps pace with the times,taking the image of Xu Xian in the traditional text as the background material,combined with specific film and television works,this paper discusses the characteristics of Xu Xian’s image in four different periods of time in domestic film and television works.They are:the passive weak image in inheritance(1962-1980),the positive and negative image at the beginning of the change(1980-2000),the active brave image in the early landscape(2000-2011),and the compound image in the multicultural period(2011-1019).The screen image of Xu Xian is constantly changing,which is mainly influenced by cultural context,technical context and artistic context,which is analyzed by historical research method combined with actual cases and data.Based on the analysis of Xu Xian’s screen image in different stages,this paper briefly summarizes its development process,expounds the shortcomings of Xu Xian’s screen image in the development and change,and predicts its development trend in the future film and television adaptation.
