| Discourse markers exist widely in our daily conversation, and those words or short phrases, for interpreters, are easy to be omitted as redundancy even though they are not omitted for the listener when they receive such components. For the circumstance of court interpreting,in particular,it gives discourse markers a special position due to the uniqueness of court interpreting itself, especially when they exhibit the completeness, convincingness, intelligence, and credibility of the speaker.Accordingly,it requires a different interpreting strategy.Interpreting strategy is the method or means that an interpreter takes when interpreting, while the selection of strategies would make a difference to the process and the result of interpreting. To cope with that, the selection of strategy should follow closely to different skopos of the interpretation in court. With the Skopos Theory as the theoretical framework and qualitative study as the methodology, this thesis studies the functions of discourse marker in court interpreting, the interpretation strategies of discourse markers, and the examination of the interpretation under the rules of Skopos Theory.Based on the literature study, the thesis explains why discourse markers are special in court, proposes the best strategy for the discourse markers, and examines the interpretations through the skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule. This thesis aims to achieve three goals. For the first thing,it proves that it’s necessary to recognize different functions of discourse markers. For another thing, skopos plays an important role in deciding the interpreting strategy,in other words, the knowledge of the skopos decides the strategy. In the end,it aims to help future court interpreter to better decide their interpreting strategy when coming across discourse markers in court. |
