Report On C-E Translation Of Saihanba Forest Farm Of Hebei Province,China Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

The report is based on the C-E translation of the section entitled "Saihanba:Model of Environmental Conservation" from Saihanba Forest Farm of Hebei Province,China.This section introduces how Saihanba,with harsh environment in the past,became the paradise on earth through the hard work of Saihanba people.The translation of this book edited by Publication and Education Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee will call for creating an ecological environment of all the countries.The case analysis includes the following four parts.1)Poems.The difficulty of the translation of poetry lies in how to balance the connotation and form,instead of only emphasizing the form and ignoring the spirit.Rewriting is used when translating the poems so as to be faithful to the source text and give the readers a sense of beauty.2)Culture-loaded words.Cultural backgrounds of one country differ from that of the other.The difficulty of translating culture-loaded words is that there are no English equivalent expressions.In order to make the content more complete,addition,transliteration,free translation and combination of translation and explanation are used to make the target readers understand the culture-loaded words,so that the target readers can communicate effectively with the author of the book.3)Political terminology.The difficulty of translating political terminology lies in how to accurately convey the connotation of the source text while giving consideration to the acceptability of the target audience.Addition,pragmatic equivalence and comparison of the parallel structure are used in the process of translation to make sure that the translation is consistent with the principle of coherence and fidelity.4)Long and difficult sentences.Such sentences have complex structures.The difficulty of translation mainly lies in how to make a better conversion from Chinese to English because English emphasizes hypotaxis,while Chinese emphasizes parataxis.The translator should add conjunctions and prepositions in the process of C-E translation.Sometimes,reorganization is also needed to make the translation acceptable to the target readers.Skopos Theory is used as the analytical framework to enable the target readers to understand the cultural information carried by culture-loaded words,the values conveyed by political terms,and the ecological and environmental protection concept promoted by the source text.In this way,the language of the report conforms to the expression habits of the target readers.
