In light of the analytical exploration of popular topics and development trends of interpreting studies in the past decade, the study of interpreting quality still stands as a hot-discussed topic in the field of interpreting research.Error analysis plays a prominent role in interpreting quality assessment. There is no shortage of studies on interpreting errors with divergent error classification, analysis framework, research methods and subjects. However, the window for standardization of research paradigm, especially the classification of error categories,is still left wide open.Based on the previous studies, this paper is anchored to discuss the errors of student interpreters in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting. The recordings of ten first-year graduate students were collected, transcribed and analyzed for the purpose of this research.According to Halliday and Hasan's theory of cohesion and coherence and Sperber's and Wilson's division of information, the framework of error analysis was comprised of target text analysis and comparison analysis with three examining dimensions of cohesion, coherence and information. In this study,Eric Mazur's academic report with slides was selected as the interpreting material.Research questions are to be answered:what are the main errors that student interpreters are prone to make in E-C consecutive interpreting? Why do they occur? It is discovered that the most widely shared errors in E-C consecutive interpretations fall into redundant personal references,fillers,self-repairs,grammatically incorrect sentences, misinterpretations, and omissions. This literature can be a supplement of previous ones that surveyed professional simultaneous interpreters.Given that it takes time and effort for students to finally become full-fledged,it is worth figuring out what obstacles they might encounter and providing suggestions and reference for student interpreters during learning process. The material which contains both acoustic information and graphic content is a simulation of the real interpreting situation to examine the student interpreters'rendering quality of language information and their coordination capability in dealing with the paralinguistic and linguistic message. It is aimed to proffer the student interpreters advice for the real interpreting scenario and also contribute to the.study of error analysis.
