| With the development of;economic globalization;shipping plays an important role in world trade.As a member of the International Maritime Organization(IMO),China has contributed to the world shipping development,transportation safety,shipping security,shipping efficiency and marine cleanness.Maritime.English translation plays a very important role in the.exchange between China and the International Maritime Organization.Maritime English,a branch of scientific English,is characterized by professional terms,complex vocabulary,nominalization.structures,etc.Thus,the translation of maritime texts is challenging.In order to ensure the shipping safety,marine environmental protection and communication between the International Maritime Organizations,great importance should be attached to the accurate and professional translation of maritime texts.This report is based on the translation practice of air pollution and energy efficiency in topic 5 of the 74th Session of the Marine Environmental Protection Commission(MEPC74).The report is a maritime text,which is highly professional and contains a large number of nominalization structures.Based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory and analysis on the definition and classification of the nominalization structure,the report aims to study the translation methods applied in the translation of nominalization structures in the text.Translation is performed through some methods such as literal translation,amplification,omission,.and conversion.Through the analysis of specific translation cases,the conclusion can be reached that the translation of the nominalization structure in the maritime text requires the use of appropriate translation methods to meet the requirements of functional equivalence theory and make the translation fit the expression of the target language.In this report,some translation strategies and techniques of nominalization structure in the maritime texts have been analyzed and studied and it is hoped that this report would provide reference for the translation of the similar texts in the future. |
