Translation is no longer just a sign conversion between two languages, but a communicative act under a certain background. This translation practice report is based on the translation of Max Planck's academic lectures:Eight Lectures on Theoretical Physics Delivered at Columbia University in 1909.As a collection of academic speeches,it has both the attributes of scientific texts and the characteristics of speeches.Technology texts are mostly informational texts, which convey information to readers through simple language.Generally, translators are required to take content as the core. However, speeches are more colloquial, resulting in imprecise and inconsistent terminology.Terminology translation is the most difficult and important point in the translation of Eight Lectures on Theoretical Physics. This paper divides the problems in translation of terminology into two categories:readability and hierarchy, and analyzes them with cases. This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the whole translation project, including the process of project acceptance and the linguistic features of the project. The second chapter summarizes some problems and translation methods of technological translation and terminology translation by combing domestic and foreign literatures, and gives the definition of terminology and the requirements of terminology translation. The third chapter emphasizes the readability of terminology translation. It requires translators to pay attention to the two important factors of the era background and terminology awareness. The development of theoretical physics has gone through many stages so far.New terms appear in each stage, and it often takes a long time for terms to be systematically defined. In view of the non-standard terms and erroneous terms in the classic early scientific and technological texts, this chapter analyzes them from the perspectives of the background of the times and the awareness of terms, combining with cases. The fourth chapter emphasizes the level of terminology translation, and discusses it from the perspectives of parallelism, unity before and after, and unity at different levels.Firstly,word2vector model is used to analyze word vectors. It provides a scientific basis for judging the parallelism of terms. Then, according to the glossary, the repeated synonymous terms and similar terms are unified and standardized. Finally, according to Halliday's concept of hierarchy, this paper discusses the unification of hierarchy in terminology translation through hierarchy-analysis.The fifth chapter summarizes the translation practice report.
