A Practice Report On Translating EPC Contract Of Chinh Thang 50MW Wind Farm,Ninh Thuan Province,Vietnam

Driven by President Xi Jinping’s One Belt One Road and The Go Globally strategies,China’s power companies are insisting on prioritizing the development of international business and general contracting business,particularly adopting the model of Engineering,Procurement,and Construction(EPC).International trade theories and practices have proved that the overall performance of the projects using the EPC model is higher than other models.As an important part of overseas EPC projects,the signing of such contracts plays an important role.In the field of translation,there are few studies on EPC contract translation,and non-English professionals often use network translation tools such as Google Translation,Youdao Translation,and etc.for EPC contract translation.As a result,the translation quality of some EPC contracts is not high and there exists many translation errors,which is bound to bring certain economic losses to the companies or lay a potential risk for the future progress of the projects.Therefore,in order to correct the deficiencies in the field of EPC contract translation and provide some references for scholars who study this field in the future,the writer attempts to take a closer look at the translated version of such EPC contracts.This report,as a case study,provides detailed analysis of EPC Contract of CHINH THANG 50MW WIND FARM,NINH THUAN PROVINCE,VIETNAM.Under the guidance of Reiss’s Text Typology and Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,comparing the business contract translation and the previous EPC contract translation,in the first place,the writer provides the complete translation procedure,and then introduces Reiss’s Text Typology and Vermeer’s Skopos Theory used in translating EPC contracts and clarifies the applicability of the two theories to EPC contracts translation.In the end,through classical case analysis,the writer demonstrates that Reiss’s Text Typology and Vermeer’s Skopos Theory play an important guiding role in the translation process of EPC contracts from the three levels of lexical,syntactical and textual levels.
