A Report On The Translation Of Overseas Study Materials

With the continuous development of globalization,economic and cultural exchanges between countries have become more and more in-depth.Therefore studying abroad has become the choice for many students and those who want to improve themselves.As the birthplace of English,the UK leads the world in teaching,financial,education and other majors,it attracting students from all over the world.Different from the traditional examination system in China,the application of British institutions requires students to provide a number of documents,including personal statements and so on.However,domestic students often do not know how to write these documents because they are not familiar with British institutions and have a limited level of English writing.Thus,many students will provide Chinese versions of documents to overseas institutions and commission them to translate these documents into English.Although the demand for translation of study abroad documents has been increasing for the past few years,up to now only few studies have been done on it.During the internship at a study abroad institution,the author translated a large amount of documents and materials,and initially summarized the important points in translating the application for studying abroad documents in UK universities.Based on relevance theory,this report tries to summarize the problems in the translation of overseas study materials and summarize the translation skills applicable to overseas study materials by using relevance theory.Through a large number of analysis and practice,the author comes to the following conclusion: because the application materials for studying abroad often involve professional courses and relevant knowledge of each major,it is necessary to fully understand the professional terms and expression habits in relevant fields.Before translating materials for studying abroad,you should check the information on the official website of the school in time,understand the requirements of the documents,and fully consider the cultural factors in the translation.Only in this way can you highlight the advantages of the applicants.
