As one of the four quintessences of our country, calligraphy is Chinese intangible treasure, which not only embodies the connotation of traditional culture.but also reflects the spirit of the historical development.Through the selection of calligraphy works and the design of a step-by-step series of practical operations,Chinese Calligraphy helps learners to deepen their experience of Chinese culture and to obtain a relatively complete cultural impression. The author participates in the translation program of Chinese Calligraphy,in the hope of inheriting and carrying forward the essence of Chinese calligraphy at home and spreading it abroad.Guided by Katharina Reiss's Text Typology Theory, the author takes the translation practice of Chinese Calligraphy as the research object to analyze and compare the linguistic features of text types between the source and target texts, and to discuss and summarize practical translation strategies.According to Reiss's Text Typology Theory, texts can be divided into informative, expressive and operative ones according to their language functions. Each text type has its own textual characteristics, and the function of language has different emphasis. However, most of the texts are multifunctional and complex. Before translation, the translator should determine the translation criteria and choose the corresponding translation strategies according to the textual functions.Based on this theory, the author finds that Chinese Calligraphy is a compound text with informative, operative and as well as expressive ones.It not only pays attention to informative and vocative functions, but also emphasizes the aesthetic form. The book is characterized by multiple culture-loaded words, strong logic.clear organization, strong dialogue and etc.Based on the textual characteristics and language features, the author, under the guidance of Reiss's Text Typology Theory, takes the corresponding translation strategies(such as explicitness, implicitness, compensatory and flexibility)to apply in the process of bilingual translation of Chine.se Calligraphy. For multiple-function texts, different translation strategies need to be combined for further analysis and application. In addition,in the translating process,Back-translation can make a deep comparison involved with the syntactic structure and the logical relationship between the source and target texts by constructing a paralleling translated text of the specific case. The reason for taking Back-translation method is that it can test the accuracy and quality of the translation, and study the translation strategies adopted by different texts on one hand;on the other hand, the textual features and expression differences between English and Chinese discourses can be understood easily, which contributes to the analysis of the source text. This research report concludes that the Text Typology Theory not only provides a relatively creative analysis model and perspective for translation practice, but also offers a theoretical basis for translation evaluation criteria.Following the theoretical framework, the translator can emphasize that the textual function and its linguistic characteristics should be objectively analyzed before translation, which can be a good guidance on the choices of the translation strategies.
