Lin Yutang chose an unique view of Chinese and Western culture and Chinese narrative strategy, and gained wide recognition in the Western world in the 20 th century.Lin Yutang has important significance and value in the history of Chinese and foreign literary exchanges. Therefore, the study of Lin Yutang has certain enlightenment on the "going out" of Chinese culture in the 21 st century.Through a case study of Lin Yutang's typical works,we found that Lin Yutang's views on Chinese and Western cultures have developed from a "spiritual Europeanization" in the 1920 s to a "universal world" in the 1930 s.Under the guidance of the view of Chinese and Western perspectives,Lin Yutang adopted two Chinese narrative strategies: first, seek common discourse of Chinese and Western cultures, including focusing on the humanistic spirit in writing, and achieving cultural filtering through creative translation.Second, excavate the complementary discourses of Chinese and Western cultures, including constructing meaningful traditional Chinese symbols, and using traditional Chinese resources to make up for the defects of the modern west,so as to realize the complementarity between the Chinese and the West.
