Directed by historical and dialectic materialism, this thesis aims to have a systematicanalysis on Song Meiling's sayings and doings during the period from 1930s to 1950s on thebasis of full understanding of her growth, political career and social background at that timeso as to discuss the construct and characteristics of Chinese and Western cultural views andexplain why this conceptual construct is inevitable in history. Meanwhile, the thesis alsoreveals that the two cultures are integrated into Song, through external manifest, expressingthe historical significance to society at that time and revelation to current society.The thesismake reviews in the following four sections: Section One reviews the background in which Song's Chinese and Western cultural viewswere shaped, discussing that her growing background plays an important catalyst role in andthe social and class reasons for shaping her views. Section Two researches on the specific manifestations of the two cultural views on Song.That she identifies herself with Western culture in her way of behavior and the habits of livingdoes not violate the standard of Chinese traditional culture as the pursuit for monarchicalpower is the political notion throughout her political life. It is on this precondition that the twocultural views are unified highly and harmoniously on her. Section Three discusses the characteristics of Song's Chinese and Western cultural views,that is, conservativeness and openness are not mutually exclusive. Section Four explores the objective significance and practical value of Song's integratingtwo cultures. Song's Chinese and Western cultural views display from a profile that the modern historyof China is contradictory and complicated. At the same time, expounding on Song's cultureviews plays an important role in flexibly handling relations with western countries andpromoting the reunification of the Taiwan Straits in the new historical period.
