A Report On The Remote Translation Practicum At The Chinese Translation Service Of The UN

Between February and October,the author joined a remote practicum program initiated by the Chinese Translation Service of United Nations and Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of Beijing Foreign Studies University.During this program,the author translated summary records,draft resolution and other types of documents.Later in the summer,the author became an intern at the Chinese Translation Section at UN Vienna,which enabled the author to have a deeper understanding of translation works in the UN.This report is about the remote practicum.It will introduce the project,and analyse cases from four aspects:accuracy,consistency,fluency and preciseness,which are the four requirements for translation especially emphasized by UN professionals.Then it will provide translation approaches.This report aims to provide those who are interested in working in the UN with detailed information,and also aims to help the author reflect on herself and share experience and lessonsThe main body of this report is comprised of five parts.The first part introduces the practicum program,related organization and divisions.The second part is about translation procedures.The third part,which is the core of the report,classifies and analyses cases from the four requirements for UN document,and the fourth part provides approaches.The fifth part is the summary where the author reviews the report and summarizes internship experience.The last part is appendix,including source texts,original translation and revised translation...
