Since the founding of the People's Republic of China,China and Africa have developed a long-standing friendship and this friendship has gotten stronger in recent years that Chinese language and culture with the aid of Confucius Institute has weaved its way into the African continent.Great efforts have been geared through thick and thin towards the spread of Chinese language in most African countries even though there still remain setbacks and shortcomings to be overcome.As the relationship between China and Africa get stronger number of migrants to both Africa and China also increases,so are more employment opportunities established.Most African students have made china as a destination for studies whiles others have chosen china as a destination for business.Henceforth the studying of Chinese language and culture has taken the spotlight in over 40 Africa countries with Ghana inclusive.The university of Ghana in the year 2008 starting admitting students to learn the Chinese language as a course even before the Confucius institute was inaugurated in the year 2013 and started operating as a center for learning and teaching Chinese language as well as writing the well-recognized HSK and HSKK examination.Up until recent years university of Cape Coast has also inaugurated Confucius Institutes in its main campus and offers Chinese language to it students and primary schools in its community.From the above one can tell how fast Chinese language has developed in Ghana even though there exist shortcomings and setbacks in satisfying the learning needs of its learners.This paper will make use of this opportunity to look out for the various learning needs and expectations of university students learning Chinese in Ghana,also focuses on the various career goals of students and how these can be achieved through satisfying the learning needs of the students.Secondly this paper will make use of the method of questionnaire,to understand the learning needs of Chinese language learners in Ghana and also give suggestions on learning needs that can target the learning and career goals of learners.Also,this paper is made up of six chapters,the first chapter includes research background and significance,research literature review,research content,research methods,research theoretical framework.The literature review has a section which talks about how learning needs came into existence and how it has developed in other countries besides China,the second section also talks about how it has developed in China.Last section talks about similar researches done by other writers in the country of the writer,Ghana.The second chapter is an overview of Chinese teaching in Ghana and introducing "the development of Chinese course in Ghana" and "the state of Chinese teaching Ghana5.It goes into details on the teaching of language in Ghana and how the teaching and learning of Chinese was introduced and how it has developed in recent years.Furthermore,third chapter is on questionnaires survey on the learning needs of Chinese language learners in Ghana and the analysis of data collected.According to the analysis of the third chapter,the fourth chapter will point out the problems found in the survey.In the fifth chapter,the writer will bring forth suggestions and opinions to solve the problems found in the fourth chapter.The final chapter includes the appendix and references made by the writer in other to conduct this research.
