Translation Internship Report At Codex

From February to June in 2019,the author had conducted a 4-month translation internship in Beijing Codex translation company Ltd.,and translated more than 371,000 words(without repetition rate).Through this internship,my online search and translation abilities have been much improved and my understanding of medical text and translation process have been deepened.The cases in this report were selected from some of what I have translated during the internship,including thesis,test evaluation,drug research abstract,certificate and etc.This report analyzed some texts from the aspects of words,sentence structure and translation format in order to provide some useful references for the field of medical translation.First of all,from the perspective of words,common words have different meanings in different texts,and special attention should be paid to the expression.The main source of medical terminology is borrowed from foreign words.They are complex and lengthy,which troubles translators a lot.As for the translation of those medical terms,there are also laws to abide by,for most medical terms are basically composed of roots,prefixes,suffixes,and conjunctive vowels.Therefore,translating medical terms from affix can achieve twice the result with half the effort.From the perspective of sentence,the expression of medical texts should be concise,accurate and normative.In addition,there are many fixed sentence patterns in medical texts,which translators need to sort out and accumulate during daily translation practice.For sentences without a fixed set,it is necessary and important for translators to accumulate translation experience and translation strategies through practice over time.For medical texts,the importance of translation is self-evident.Customer satisfaction often depends on both translation quality and format details.The translator should not only pay attention to the font size,color,thickness,space and other formats,but also pay special attention to the use of punctuation marks in accordance with the target language as well as the consistency and standardization of dates,units and numbers.In the last part of this paper,my thought and feelings of this internship are recorded.Through the training period,the author has accumulated some social experience,and enhanced her ability to adapt to the workplace life.Here,the author appeals to MTI students to take an active part in the translation company internship,and to take the initiative to perform the translation social practice.In addition,most of the MTI graduation theses are translation practice reports,thus my internship report can contribute to this type of thesis.
