| With the development of China’s economy and the strength of its national power,China enjoys an increasing say in the international community.There is a boom in learning Chinese around the world.As the main force in spreading Chinese language and culture,Chinese teacher volunteers face many problems while working and living overseas,such as psychological and cultural adaptation.There are significant cultural differences between China and Hungary,and cross-cultural conflicts with students,colleagues and other locals are inevitable in communication.It is essential to help Chinese teacher volunteers to ease or even avoid cross-cultural conflicts and adapt to overseas life as soon as possible.As one of the Chinese volunteer teachers of the Confucius Institute at the University of Eotvos Lorand in Hungary,the author conducted a participatory observation to study cross-cultural conflicts in life and work of Chinese teacher volunteers.Based on the previous studies on cross-cultural conflicts,this paper analyzes the cross-cultural conflicts encountered by Chinese teacher volunteers at the Confucius Institute at Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary and the causes.In order to help other Chinese volunteer teachers to adapt to the work and life in Hungary,this paper puts forward some suggestions and opinions according to the finding of the present study.In response to cross-cultural conflicts,volunteers need to raise their cross-cultural awareness from three aspects:cognitive,emotional and behavioral.At the same time,China National Office for Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language should establish a Chinese teacher’s cross-cultural competence evaluation system,strengthen the training of Chinese teachers’ cross-cultural competence in the promotion of Chinese language and culture,and strengthen cultural teaching and cultural dissemination in cultural promotion. |
