| Reading is a fundamental skill for English learners in the senior high school(SHS),and cultivating their English reading ability has long been the focus of the reading experts and front-line teachers. But due to the influence of traditional English teaching methods and the pressure of examinations,English reading teaching in China still pays too much attention to grammar, sentences and vocabulary, while neglecting the discourse, communication, and students’ learning autonomy. To solve these problems, flipped class model(FCM)has been introduced into the reading classrooms. To test the effect of FCM,this study selected 110 first-year students from two classes of an SHS in Shanxi province.Among them,Class 2 was designated as the experimental class, and the FCM was adopted,Class 3 was control class, and used English reading model:pre-reading,while-reading,post-reading(PWP).With the help of the test before and after the experiment and the survey of questionnaire, this paper mainly answered two questions: 1)whether the FCM can improve students’ English reading ability in senior high school;2)whether FCM can reduce students’ English reading anxiety in senior high school. The pre-test data showed that there is no significant difference in English reading level and English reading anxiety of students in the two classes. The experimental results show that at the end of the experiment, the reading level of the experimental class had significantly improved compared with the control class based on the experimental data of SPSS.The FCM improved students’ English reading ability and reduced their English reading anxiety in senior high school. Therefore, the FCM is helpful to solve the problems existing in English reading teaching in senior high schools. But meanwhile, the study of flipped class is still largely in its infancy in senior high school English reading in China, and more research is expected in this field. |
