College English reading comprehension,a major way of English knowledge input,plays an indispensable role in English learning.However,currently,the college English reading teaching is teacher-centered and the teaching model is single without communication,which leads to students losing learning interest and enthusiasm.They can’t improve their English reading scores obviously.Therefore,based on the current English reading teaching situation,we need to find an effective English reading teaching model to improve English teaching effect and efficiency.The flipped classroom model under the constructivist learning theory is a new teaching model,which can be used in English reading teaching.It is student-centered and helps students construct knowledge system.So far,not an authoritative definition is reached.But most scholars both at home and abroad think that it is a type of blended learning.It reverses the traditional teaching process and activities by putting the learning materials before class and moving the homework and problems-exploring in class.However,there is a misunderstanding of the flipped classroom model,which is taken as the video teaching.In China,the indigenization of this model has begun.Many schools apply this model according to their real situations.To adjust some factors to make it more suitable to our reality is the tendency in future.The thesis tries to research the teaching effect of the flipped classroom model in college English reading class.There are four research questions: 1)Does the flipped classroom model arouse students’ learning interest? 2)Does the flipped classroom model stimulate their autonomous learning ability? 3)Is the flipped classroom model conductive to improving the effect and efficiency of English reading teaching? 4)What factors need to be taken into consideration when applying the flipped classroom model in English reading teaching?The research subjects are the freshmen of China University of Petroleum(East China).The research period lasts for one semester.Before the research,the students were given a pre-test,by which one class was chosen as the experimental class,another was chosen as control class.The experimental class adopts the flipped classroom model,while the traditional teaching model is still used in the control class.The questionnaire was used in the two classes to analyze their reading situation.In the experimental class,the classroom observation and interview were used to reflect students’ attitude towards the flipped classroom model.At the end of the semester,a post-test was given to all the students.It turns out that flipped classroom model contributes to arousing students’ learning interest,cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability and enhancing the teaching effect and efficiency.Besides,some pedagogical implications are given about the application of the flipped classroom model in college English reading class.However,the research has some limitations due to some reasons.But it can provide some references for the application of the flipped classroom model in college English reading class.
