As early as the Spaniards invaded the La Plata area, the city began to appear and had certain urban plans. But until the mid-nineteenth century, though more than three hundred years had passed, the city did not have much special changes. After 1880,the situation suddenly changed. With the surge of population and the development of economic, the urban development of Argentina entered the era of high-speed urbanization. In this process,it combined the continuation of colonial history, the reference to European experiences and the adaptation to the national conditions of the country.By 1930,Argentina's urbanization rate had reached nearly 60 percent based on urban population. This paper traces the history of the Argentine city and the background of the urbanization. It uses Friedmann's urbanization theory to explore the three factors motivate the urbanization process. The three factors are population, economy and infrastructure. Then it discusses the subsequent impact of urbanization.Through the combing of the urbanization process in Argentina, this paper believes that Argentina's urbanization did begin during that period, which also accelerated the transformation of Argentina's cultural and social life, but at the same time, many side effects of urbanization appeared. The highlighted development imbalance and the lack of infrastructure emerged and would continue. So the future of urbanization is still a topic that scholars are exploring today.
