Theoretical Framework And Empirical Research On Urbanization In China Under Geographical Perspective

Urbanization is an enduring research topic, and scholars from almost all the humanities and social sciences and even some of the natural sciences are concerned about the problems of urbanization dynamics. On one hand, different scholars from different subjects, perspectives or interpretations show the performance of their biased meanings, while they can’t really understand or grasp the nature of urbanization; on the other hand, researching on the urbanization is one kind of solution of specific problems of urban and regional development of science. So it belongs to the development of changing a“problem-oriented”, which is a science about solving the problems all over the urban and regions. But scholars in China have not yet formed a theory of urbanization due to the lag of theoretical development and the lack of research methods. The purpose of the author in this paper is to understand the urbanization and its subject content in geography from ideology, meaning, studying objects and methodology and in practice to analyze and solve practical problems of urbanization.The main line in this paper is the thought of geography. On the basis of theoretical research about the related subjects of geography, the author built the models by multiple basic data processing software and GIS techniques using visualization and analytical tools. In this paper, the author proposed the future approach to urbanization in Jilin Province and the practical means from a geographic perspective to construct the research framework, and then test the theoretical framework. The whole paper includes four chapters:Chapter I: Analyzing the significance and the background of this paper. Research on domestic and international context of urbanization and resolve the overall research framework.Chapter II: Building the urbanization theory framework of China based on geographical perspective. In this chapter the author mainly analyzed the context of urbanization, the relevant geographic thought of urbanization, and three basis points (the process of urbanization, pattern and mechanism) in China; in the part of process and pattern the author mainly introduced the development of urbanization in China from“history”and“space”, and summarized the related research methods and theory home and abroad; in the part of mechanism, the author mainly analyzed elements conditional system from the geographical elements and conditional mechanism, and summarized the development of urbanization in China(dynamic mechanism, transmission mechanism and security mechanism), proposed the concept of“urbanization geographical response”, and ultimately summarized the framework of urbanization theoretical research under geography in China. Chapter III: Jilin Province was selected as an empirical study in this chapter, and the author analyzed the process of urbanization, spatial pattern and the mechanism quantitatively and qualitatively. First, the author analyzed deeply elements of urbanization and conditional bases in Jilin Province. Second, the author built the level system of urbanization development in Jilin Province, and research on space pattern of urbanization level; quantitatively measured the city hierarchical system of Jilin Province spatial pattern by urban streamline models, urban fuction system of Jilin Province spatial pattern by location models, and screening out spatial relationship between the state and node structure by gravity model of urban system; Third, research on the evolution of Jilin Province after the time of the reform and opening-up by Kernel spatial density analysis.Chapter IV: Four major geographic issues about the morphology development of mega-cities in Jilin Province, eco-environmental problems in the process of rapid urban constrction, the adjustment of industrial structure in the process of urbanization and regional urbanization development are analyzed in this chapter, and also proposed the corresponding control measures. Summarized the future approach to urbanization and practical means in Jilin Province on the basis of the negative response and controlling proposed by the author.
