Research On The Evaluation Of Chinese Films On Foreign Film Review Websites

From 2016 to 2018,the domestic box office of the Chinese films went from 22.419 billion yuan to 26.711 billion yuan,and then to 34.738 billion yuan.However,in terms of its overseas achievements,it still fails to break 5 billion yuan(the State Film Bureau even did not release overseas box office results in 2018).Chinese films are still "wading across the stream by feeling the way" when they go abroad.Under the circumstances,it is particularly important to study the overseas evaluation of Chinese films.This paper takes the evaluation of Chinese films on foreign film review websites as the research object.In terms of the selection of specific film samples,this paper selects 146 films that their domestic box office have been over ten billion yuan in each year.These films lists are published by the China Film News from 2016 to 2018.On a shape at a similar time,the evaluation resources(the comment valence,the comment number and the comment text)on IMDb and rotten tomatoes were obtained and analyzed.In addition to revealing the three consecutive years of changes in the comment valence of Chinese films,the paper has actually discovered and explored the different versions of the two sites’ Critic texts--the audience-reviewed text and the text of Top Critic.According to the principle of the literature exhaustive method,the author using the crawler crawling the 2264 movie reviews of 115 Chinese films on the IMDb site(the IMDb site only contains 115 Chinese film that have the audience-reviewed text)and 334 movie reviews of 51 movies on the Rotten Tomatoes site(the Rotten Tomatoes site only contains 51 Chinese films that both have freshness score and a leading authority evaluation reviews).For the procession of the audience-reviewed text on the IMDb site,this paper uses the scientific package processing based on Python 3,while using the WordCloud and TextBlob package to conduct data mining on the comment text.The result we export are the word frequency cloud image and the sentiment analysis.With regarding to the procession of film reviews on Rotten Tomatoes site,this paper uses the classification method of subject field and summarizes the evaluation keywords of Top Critics by reading 206 reviews of 10 films.This paper analyzes evaluation from the four dimensions of art,culture,economy and technology.After analyzing the reviews of the two websites,the author also puts forward some feasible Suggestions.
