The number of prepositions is limited, but the frequency of utilization is high.A preposition, attached to a noun or noun phrase to form a prepositional phrase, acts as a marker in a sentence to complement and modify the predicate. The usage of "gei" in Chinese is quite complicated since it can be used as a verb,a preposition or an auxiliary words. The preposition "gei" whose main function is to indicate the object concerned is widely used in modern Chinese and it is an early preposition for foreign students at the same time. There are many studies on the error of the utilization of the preposition "gei" and the research on nationalization is also rich at the same time, however, the blank exists in the study towards Lao country. For this reason, through the analysis of the natural corpus and the questionnaire, this paper finds out the overall situation of the preposition "gei" error during the Lao students in the beginning, middle and high grades.Based on the interlanguage theory and error analysis theory, the collected data are analyzed. The results reveal many errors in the utilization of preposition "gei" by Lao students, which can be divided into four types: omission, mixed use, misaddition and misorder, among which the error rate of mixed use is the highest. The main cause of the error is due to the influence from negative transfer of mother tongue, generalization of target language knowledge, learning strategies, communication strategies and learning environment. As a Chinese teacher for foreigners,we should pay much more attention to the errors caused by students,so,at the end of this paper, some relevant suggestions are put forward from three angles, including teachers, textbooks and students, which are expected to take effect in later teaching to help Lao students to reduce the preposition "gei" errors, and receive better acquisition in Chinese.
