A Study On Dennett's Theory Of Free Will

Under the trend of naturalism in contemporary philosophy of mind,Free will has been tried to explain naturalism.Daniel Clemente Dannett is a unique contemporary philosopher of mind.He believes that the naturalism of free will is in line with science and meets people's expectations of free will in the past.Therefore,this hypothesis should be admitted.Dennett's theory of free will mainly includes two parts,one is the compatibility theory of free will,the other is the evolution theory of free will.The compatibility between free will and determinism has long been controversial in philosophical circles.Dennett explained the controversial uncontrollability,non-selectivity and inevitability,and separated these concepts from determinism.The different definitions of the concept of free will are the important reasons why free will is difficult to explain.Dennett's redefinition of the concept of free will is mainly carried out in his theory of free will evolution,which shows that free will plays a certain role in the process of human biological evolution and social evolution.Dennett's free will has three distinct characteristics: naturalism,holism and purposive function.Dennett's definition of himself is a mild anti-essentialism realism,but he can not get rid of the instrumentalism questioned by the academic circles.There are some self-contradictions in his theory,but it can not be denied that the interpretation of free will put forward by Dennett is of great significance in the present world.In the course of the research,three main research methods are used: system research method,putting Dannett's theory of free will into the theoretical framework of his philosophy of mind;causality analysis method,analyzing the historical discussion of free will and the current trend of contemporary philosophy of mind,thinking about the influence of these theories on Dannett's thought of free will;interdisciplinary research method.The explanation of free will is based on the theories of biology,neuroscience and artificial intelligence science.
