A Study On Translation Strategies For Cultural Relics Based On Memetics

Cultural relics contain abundant historical information and ethnic culture and is an important means to transmit culture effectively.Therefore,translation of cultural relics serves as a bridge for international tourists to appreciate Chinese culture and a way to promote cross-cultural communication.Many researchers have carried out various studies on this field.However,these studies focus on the translation errors,principles and strategies either from a micro linguistic perspective or from a cross-cultural perspective.This thesis intends to study cultural relic translation from a new perspective of memetics.Based on memetics,the translation of cultural relics is not only the transformation between two language,but also is in connection with the historical,cultural as well as cognitive background contained in different language.Memetics provides a new perspective to analyze the translation activities.This thesis intends to combine memetics with translation of cultural relics.By collecting the first-hand data in Shaanxi History Museum,the author sets up a corpus.Based on the qualitative analysis,this thesis firstly reveals the relationship between cultural relics translation and memetics by analyzing the four stages of meme selection.Then by analyzing the different selective criteria that should be satisfied and the different transmission modes in the process of cultural relics translation,this thesis sums up some translation strategies to create strong cultural relics memes.The conclusion of this thesis has certain subjectivity for the author's limitation in knowledge level and research methods,which needs mature theory to support and further data to prove.
