This thesis is a translating report on excerpt from chapter two of The Poetics of Repetition in English and Chinese Lyric Poetry,written by Cecile Chu-chin Sun.This chapter,phonically,focuses on the comparative study of various repetition devices used in Chinese and English traditions.During the translation,Peter Newmark's Communicative Translation serves as the guiding theory.Under the guidance of the theory,the translator summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels with considering the features of poetic academic books.By providing particular cases,the translator attempts to illustrate the solutions to tackle these difficulties.Hopefully,these solutions may inspire prospective translators engaged in translating poetic academic texts as a reference.This report consists of four parts.Part One briefs the background and significance of the translation project.Part Two analyzes the content and linguistic features of the source text.Part Three is the core of this report,presenting the description of the translation project,description of the difficulties encountered,brief introduction of the guiding theory and solutions to tackle the difficulties.As for the last one,the translator elucidates the selected cases and summarizes general solutions under the guidance of Communicative Translation.Part Four concludes the lessons learned and problems to be solved.
