This report, using the eco-translatological concept of adaptation and selection in the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions,is to study the translation of an international political text,Understanding the Evolution of the Israel Lobby's Influence on U.S Foreign Policy. The original text is deeply involved in the history of the Middle East and the United States and their relations. This requires the translator to make adequate preparations before getting started so that the translator can have a knowledge of the linguistic ecology of the original text. Also,a high sensitivity to ideology is required so that proper techniques or strategies for the transfer in three dimensions can be used to convey the original information and ideas, with the translation better adapted to the ecology of the target language. With reference to the framework of eco-translatology and the features of political discourse, the report employs the method of case study.Specific techniques for adaptation and selection in three dimensions are discussed in the process of translation. As for the linguistic dimension, emotions, strength and appropriateness of a word or phrase in the source text have to be represented adequately. With reference to the cultural dimension, the cultural transmission and cognition can be achieved from the angle of American foreign policy, the history and religion in the Middle East and international political stance.Transfer in the communicative dimension mainly focuses on communicative intention and readers' response, which helps fluent reading. In the process of translation, the translator needs to adapt to the environment both of the source language and of the target language, taking into account three-dimensional transformation and providing proper translation as well as helping readers to understand the international community from various aspects and perspectives. As an attempt to use eco-translatology in the translation of international political discourse, the study is aimed to indicate how a translator can be adapted to the ecologies of both the source text and the target text and use proper techniques for transfer so that the translation can better be adapted to and survive in the ecology of the target language. It is hoped that this study can be of some help to translation practice.
