A Song of Ice and Fire is an epic fantasy series by George R.R.Martin.It mainly tells a series of stories about power struggle and magic counterbalance in the "second world",which is similar to the medieval world in Europe.The plot of the novel is complicated and the characters are profound.Within a broad vision,Martin intertwines different characters and various life feelings with the walking or standstill of characters,making a narration connected with fantasy and ancient myth.When returning from the novel space to reality,we find that Martin's "second world" is actually to depict the living beings of social reality,is the "distortion" of social reality,is the reflection of human reality,it has profound implied and metaphoric,which is a metaphor the real world and also a literal expression of empirical society.It refers to the various forms of violence in the process of modernity and the changes of human nature influenced by money and power.The expansion of material desire and the rule of the supremacy of money effortlessly destroy people's spiritual dam,which describes the collapse of the human spiritual home and the spiritual world.The fantasy narration of the novel is a "distance" observation of the real world.This work is a landmark work in the contemporary fantasy literature.On the basis of inheriting the Western fantasy literature creation,it uses exquisite narrative skills to break through the shackles,get rid of the rigid narrative mode,and shows its unique narrative charm.How the characters are shaped,how the plots are structured,how the stories are told and what the advantages of Martin's storytelling strategies are,all of these questions worth and need to be studied.This paper takes "A Song f Ice and Fire" as the research object,and analyzes the narrative characteristics of "A Song of Ice and Fire" based on relevant theories of narratology.The thesis consists of three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.Chapter one combs the world setting of “the second world” of A Song of Ice and Fire from natural environment,social environment and regional discusses the fantasy narration of the "second world" which is both real and unreal.Chapter two discusses the narrative approach adopted in A Song of Ice and Fire.Based on Genette's narrative theory and Shen Dan's classification of narrative perspective,this chapter discusses the multi-perspective narration and the “complementarity” of a unique perspective of crossing the.Through the analysis of Bran,Aria and Jon's ice wolf perspective,the novel's unique perspective is explored.Chapter three discusses the network structure narration and structural features of A Song of Ice and Fire.In this chapter,The story lines of the three important families' figures are clearly distinguished,and then the interwoven forms of several story lines in the work are specifically analyzed to discuss the programmatic role of prophecy in the story development of the novel,as well as the netted narrative structure mode of A Song of Ice and Fire.Chapter four discusses the artistic effects of different narrative techniques in A Song of Ice and Fire.This paper first analyzes the image building of specific characters,then discusses the positive role of multi-perspective narration in building multi-dimensional characters.By analyzing the prophecy of Daenerys and Cersei,this paper analyzes the suspenseful effect achieved by the prophetic narration in the novel.Finally,the author concludes that the unique charm of "A Song of Ice and Fire" is inseparable from a series of exquisite narrative skills.The novel adopts the narration of multiple perspectives,and the narration of the same event by multiple characters from different aspects complements the limitation of a single perspective.Using the "complement" of the multi-perspective narration,a multi-dimensional character image is created and the "original appearance" of the story is restored.The novel is multi-threaded and centers on family disputes,with secondary story lines and three main story lines connecting and complementing each other,forming a combined network structure.The multi-perspective narration and reticular structure of A Song of Ice and Fire are organically unified.The entire novel's prophetic structure makes up for the frequent intersections of multi-perspective narration,and the combination of multiple perspectives and multiple clues finally forms the novel's combinatorial reticular structure,showing the unique charm of both reality and illusion.
