| With the background of Chinese culture going international,Chinese literary works being translated into other languages is proved to be an important way to enhance soft power of China.Of literature genres,documentary writing is an important genre.On the basis of translation practice of Liangjiahe,this report makes a detailed analysis of the translation difficulties encountered in the practice,which includes: 1)difficulties of translating northern Shaanxi dialect,including names of local food and local idioms;2)difficulties of translating vocabularies about identities of characters in Liangjiahe;3)difficulties of translating vocabularies about political movements and organizations featured in particular historical period;and 4)difficulties of translating emotional modifiers.In accordance with semantic and communicative translation approaches put forward by Peter Newmark,semantic translation approach is better in applying to serious literature,autobiographical works and considerable works involving political commentary,while the communicative translation approach focuses on target language readers.Therefore,semantic translation and communicative translation are used in translating Liangjiahe.Specifically,transliteration and literal translation are adopted under the guidance of semantic translation approach.Omission and free translation are employed under the guidance of communicative translation approach.Transliteration plus annotation and literal translation plus annotation are used under the guidance of semantic translation combined with communicative translation approaches.The tentative findings of this report are expected to help enlighten translating of works which enjoy similar genres. |
