As the largest non-government oil and gas producer in the world,ExxonMobil publishes the report Outlook for Energy almost every year. The release of Outlook is able to increase ExxonMobil's reputation and enhance its position in the energy industry. For ExxonMobil,China is one of the largest markets,so the report's Chinese version has become an important step for ExxonMobil to enter into the China market, and it also allows more people to understand the trends of global energy development. This paper is a translation report, whose original text is English. The material is 2018 Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040 released by ExxonMobil in February 2018,which is divided into 15 chapters. The original text analyzes the long-term energy trends of 15 demand areas and of 20 energy types in about 100 countries or regions, and also studies the impact of the goal “holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels” on the oil and gas industry. This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter “Task Description” describes the background and significance of Outlook for Energy's Chinese translation. The second chapter “Case Description” is divided into case introduction, text features and translation process. The case introduction introduces the main content of Outlook. The text features analyze the original text from three aspects: words, sentences and discourse. The translation process includes three aspects: pre-translation preparation,while-translation stage and post-translation proofreading. The third chapter “Case Analysis” combines translation techniques and methods with specific text, such as adverbial participle structures, nominalizations, sentences containing numbers and passive voice, etc.,and solves the problems encountered in the process with the methods of literal translation, liberal translation, conversion and division. The fourth chapter “Summary” summaries the findings and inspirations gained from this practice,as well as the limitations that may still exist.
