Chinese character is a kind of unique and beautiful writing symbol.It is not a simple combination of lines,but a text that preserves the soul of the original images and rich culture implications.Therefore,teachers can utilize it to facilitate the teaching of characters in TCSOL(Teaching Chinese To Speakers of Other Language),and to attract foreign students to learn Chinese characters,improving their Chinese proficiency.Taking advantages of the theories about facilitating teaching Chinese characters by introducing Chinese character culture,this paper counts the whole 2905 Chinese characters in the Chinese Characters Level Outline of Chinese Language Proficiency and classified them by radicals.Amomg them 39 radicals with clear ideologies were further analyzed.Refering to the book Chinese Character Culture Grand View by Mr.He Jiuying,the chosed Chinese characters were classified according to cultural content to link them as a system.Furthermore,with the reference of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,Chinese Character Source Dictionary and other dictionaries,the Chinese characters which are suitable for the introduction of Chinese character culture elements were chosed as teaching content.In the teaching practice,the subjects are 22 foreign students who mastered 2500-3000 words and come from Thailand,Japan,South Africa,Sudan,Czech Republic,Armenia and Madagascar.Their Chinese proficiency levels are between HSK level 4 to 5.Teaching experience and deficiency were learned by analyzing teaching results of final examing papers and questionnaires.It is expected to achieve the combination of theoretical analysis and investigation practice,quantitative research and qualitative research in order to enhance the effectiveness and operability of this teaching practice.After a semester of classes,foreign students had become more and more interested in the origin of Chinese characters and Chinese traditional culture.Their ability of mastering Chinese character structures and understanding or guessing the meaning of characters has also been noticeably improved.
