The building of soft power has been of increasing importance in enhancing national comprehensive strength in an era of economic globalization.Meanwhile, city culture is an important and indispensable part of soft power. Therefore, the translation and dissemination of Chinese city culture have contributed a lot to the construction of soft power.Being the first special economic zone of China,Shenzhen has been prosperous in spite of its short history with its unique city culture, which represents typical migrant culture in China. This translation project report is based on the excerpts about Shenzhen of Exploring the Cities, authored by famous scholar Yi Zhongtian. The excerpted chapters mainly talk about the inclusive and open city culture of Shenzhen after the Reform and Opening. The translation report has a wide range of target readers, including English readers who love and have great interests in Chinese culture both at home and abroad.Under the guidance of Vermeer's skopos theory, domestication strategy with several translation methods, including free translation, imitation and so forth, have been applied to make the target text more accessible to target readers. The translation of Chinese rhetoric devices,culture-loaded words and run-on sentences are the main difficulties of the translation project.Different translation techniques, such as addition, omission and shift, have been applied to deal with them to meet the expectation of the target readers and realize intratextual and intertextual coherence to some degree. The translation project aims at introducing Shenzhen's dynamic, inclusive and open city culture to the world and enhance national cultural strength.
