The movie is a modern art which combines vision and hearing,and it is deeply loved by people as one of the most important forms for artistic expression all the time and it has become an important way for people’s normal entertainment in our daily life.With the continuous enrichment and development of Chinese movie market,more and more foreign movies have been imported and attract Chinese people a lot.However,due to the differences between Chinese and western cultural backgrounds,there are also many differences during the process of cultural fusion.The movie’s name could be a direct expression of a movie’s core content,and it also has cultural value and commercial value.Most domestic researches for English movie name’s E-C translation are focusing on translation methods and skills,and lacking of researches for its translation theories and application,meanwhile,the examples for research objects are similar without new ideas.Therefore,thesis will be based on skopos theory from translation’s theory,and it will explain the content and development of skopos theory,summarizing the general features and principles for English movie name’s translation basing on Chinese movie market’s current situation.In addition,according to skopos theory’s guidance it emphasizes the importance of target language receivers during translation’s process and translators should choose translation methods and skills basing on translation purpose.thesis will use deeply analysis of existing conditions and summarizing the normal problems and limitations for E-C translation of English movie names in current Chinese market.It shows the specific application and existence meaning of skopos theory through a large number of examples.It turns out that the translated English movie names could convey source text’s main idea more correctly and attract audiences with translation theory’s guidance,so skopos theory has guiding significance.In addition,thesis will also provide more suggestions and solutions which help to make the current condition better according to translation theory’s methods and skopos theory’s guidance,expanding the practical application of skopos theory and also enriching the theoretical basis of English movie names’ translation.
